Year 7- Colour theory

Developing the work from warm and cool colours, students then looked at line and tonal drawings of everyday objects inspired by Michael Craig-Martin. The focus was learning how colours work together; contrasting and complimentary.

The drawing process.

Before drawing everyday objects, students were made away to ‘find the shapes’ when drawing, making it easier for the task to be carried out. All images were differentiated and the higher ability were stretched to create a drawing from life.

Layering images.

After practicing tonal drawings of everyday objects, students developed the work, simplified their drawings and explored colour combinations to create a final image.

Students regularly reviewed and assessed each others work, using ‘what went well’ and ‘even better if’ as a way for critical reflection.
