Students exploring printmaking, leading towards their final piece ‘Mix media Skulls’.

This project was with year 8. The project started with creating drawings from artist work Posada, learning about the history of the artist and what inspired his work. They then followed by developing these drawings into prints.

Printmaking

After learning about Posada and creating drawings, students worked directly onto poly-plastic with biro. Students worked in pairs to produce their final print, which was an effective way to share knowledge and techniques. Printmaking was a great way to stimulate curiosity which in turn engaged their learning.

Development

During the sequence of lessons, students learnt about a new artist each week, to develop a mixed media piece. Students looked at; Cézanne and watercolour, Andy Warhol to create collage and printmaking, followed by the loose sketchy marks of artist Vince Low. Students throughly enjoyed exploring a range of media and took pride in creating their final skull.
